Traditional middle class jobs with career prospects replaced by a lower-paid, less stable workforce– perhaps more vulnerable to outside influence?

I don’t think there are any health benefits associated with the practice; it’s purely about getting high.

What legalization can’t do is fix any problems inherent in drug use itself.

Once such substances get a foothold in a region, they’re extremely hard to eradicate.

Much of the chronic user’s life is taken up by anxiety, about where future doses will come from.

There’s an ongoing search among users for ways to either improve the high (which escalating tolerance threatens to steal away) or suppress the withdrawal symptoms.

We can’t predict in advance which user will turn out to be in which category, and frankly, neither can they.

There are plenty of steps we could take, supported by research and common sense, that would produce measurable gains in a relatively short span.

In this most recent example, the funds aren’t there. No new money attached.
