A 12-session recovery workbook for building a new life in sobriety

My Life in Recovery is a new workbook companion to The Recovery Book, the award-winning “Bible of recovery.”

For most people, getting sober is just the first step in recovery. They soon realize they need to learn how to stay sober, while also repairing relationships, restoring health, and picking up the pieces of a career. It can all be overwhelming for someone who is just trying to get through one day at a time.

We wrote My Life in Recovery to help people develop their own detailed plans for rebuilding their lives and thriving in recovery. The workbook has 12 sessions of reading assignments, homework questions, discussion topics, journaling prompts, and personal exercises. It can be used as a 12-week lesson plan for group meetings or as a self-paced program. In pilot groups, we’ve seen that recovery professionals, peer counselors, sponsors, and individuals in recovery all find it to be a very useful and practical tool for building a strong and solid recovery.

My Life in Recovery is used in conjunction with The Recovery Book: Answers to All Your Questions About Addiction and Alcoholism and Finding Health and Happiness in Sobriety, by Al J. Mooney, M.D., Catherine Dold, and Howard Eisenberg.

Dr. Mooney is a well-known expert in addiction and recovery. He’s been involved in the field since he was a teenager, when his parents got into recovery and then founded an addiction treatment center, Willingway Hospital (now part of Summit BHC treatment centers). Dr. Mooney was CEO of the hospital for many years, and has helped thousands of people find recovery.

Catherine Dold, a freelance health writer, is co-author of My Life in Recovery: A 12-session recovery workbook for building a new life in sobriety and The Recovery Book: Answers to All Your Questions About Addiction and Alcoholism and Finding Health and Happiness in Sobriety. (Links in article above for more information.)
